The NNTTC trains early childhood educators (preschool teachers, attendants / caregiver) in the education, care and development of the child aged 0-6 years.
This is to equip trainees with basic knowledge and skills in the education and care of the young child aged 0-6 years. It is expected that the knowledge acquired would enable the educators work with the various age groups of children between birth and six years, namely, the crèche (0-2 years); the toddlers (2-3 years); the nursery (3-4 years); and the kindergarten (4-6 years).
The training is through courses, seminars, workshops and in-service training programmes
The Centre runs three regular eight weeks programmes in a year which are organized within the Basic School Academic Calendar; the fourth is a two-part Modular programme which is run during the April and August vacation periods (aimed at giving opportunity to caregivers already on the job).
Alongside these programmes, the NNTTC organizes:
Seminars and Workshops for proprietors and proprietresses, parents and members of the community, stressing their role in Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD).
“Outreach” training programmes, especially for Early Childhood Educators in the districts and rural communities, thus, bringing preschool training to the doorsteps of preschool educators in remote areas.
In-service - training for Early Childhood Educators on the job to update their knowledge on new trends in early childhood education, care and development.
Workshops for related Ministries, Departments and Agencies upon request.
Follow-Up-Visits to some E.C.D. Centres in the Districts to find out whether beneficiaries of the training programme are practicing what they have learnt.
